Islamic law has existed and evolved since the seventh century so the title of this page of UK Islamic Finance Law should be understood accordingly. As with the history of modern Islamic banking and finance (which did not begin in earnest until the 1970s), the age of the categories and practices below are measured in decades rather than centuries rendering them novel and innovative developments whatever individual observers might consider the strength of their claim to consonance with Islamic law to be.

Current and unfolding developments in the markets and possibilities for future change and innovation are also considered in the UK Islamic Finance Law blog, and further reading suggested in the Bibliography.
